Night of every March 3rd, the naked men festival that takes place in more than a meter of snow is said to be one of the weird festivals in Japan, and described in detail in “Hokuetsu Seppu“, a famous book written in late Edo period. It is said that this festival is originated from the historical event that about 1,200 years ago, Sakanoueno-tamuramaro, the north-east district general at the time, built the temple, MIDO, and put the statue of Bishamon-tennoh to pray with his soldiers and the head of the village for the peace of the nation and the win of the war as well as a harvest, safety of a family, and a health with singing and dancing. Lately, because of the high responsiveness of the Bishamon-tennoh and the patronage from the Shogunate, Bakufu, the number of prayers increased year by year.
